This is a book in the Swindoll Leadership Library. In the Foreword the author says, "To listen to a gifted counselor impart advice, encouragement, or correction is like watching a skilled painter or sculptor at work. The good counselor knows when to talk and when not to talk. Like the expert sculptor who knows where to chip and chisel, the qualified counselor knows when to prod and where to probe."

The book is divided in to three major divisions. The first defines biblical counseling explaining what it is and what it is not. The second section is titled Skill: for Biblical Counselors which outlines three skills. First, is Helping People Tell Their Stories, the second Helping People Choose Their Goals and the third is Helping People Practice. The book is easy to read avoiding the languge of professional counselors and pointing out how the Bible is a boundless resource for use in dealing with the questions and pressures which life brings. This is a book to be used by Sunday school teachers and other lay people it is also valuable for pastors as well as serious Bible students. The physical make up of the book is excellent and the author demonstrates a lively sense of humor throughout.
