A Plea For the Godly and Other Sermons

by Thomas Watson

Soli Deo Gloria Publications
PO Box 451
Morgan, Pennsylvania 15064

1993, 2000 488pp Hard Cover

This volume contains 19 of Thomas Watson's sermons including the title
one "A Plea for the Godly." Thomas Watson was a 17th Century non_
conformist preacher and author who was forced to give up his church when
the Act of Conformity was passed in 1662.

Particularly appealing is his farewell sermon from Philippians 4:9 _ "Those
things which you have both learned, and received, and heard of me, do, and
the peace of God shall be with you."

The book from which the title sermon comes is the one owned by Charles
Spurgeon and borrowed from the Spurgeon Collection at William Jewell
College. Following the Declaration of Indulgence in 1672, Watson received
a license for Crosby Hall where he preached until he retired to Essex. He
died in 1686 while praying in secret.

The book is beautifully done and the type invites the reader to continue
reading. Watson writes as if he were living and preaching today to us. This
is a book to buy, to read and to treasure.
