Book five of the Promise of Zion series.  Elizabeth Parkinson, the English girl who had been rescued from drowning by Dov was on her way home to England when her ship docked in Cyprus.  Knowing that is where Dov=s mother may be she is determined to find her.  Meanwhile, Dov is in the Jewish quarter of Jerusalem where fighting is going on.  He found himself with a bunch of frightened little children wondering if any way of escape is possible.  These stories make the struggle of the Jewish people for freedom frighteningly vivid.  The story is set when the British are leaving Jerusalem.

Both Dov and Elizabeth have more breath-taking adventures in this book although Elizabeth does find Dov=s mother very ill but still alive
